SONDER BROADCASTING
What is Sonder?
A private voice platform for recording, preserving, and sharing your stories

Sonder is a voice-first platform for recording, organising, and preserving the stories that make a life.

It is a place for memories, reflections, family history, turning points, small moments, and the thoughts that deserve more than a passing message.

The name comes from the word sonder: the realisation that every person around you is living a life as vivid, complex, and full as your own. That idea sits at the heart of the platform. Sonder was built for the stories we carry, the ones we inherit, and the ones we may one day leave behind.

It is not built around performance, followers, or public popularity. You choose what stays private, what is shared with people you trust, and what is made available to the wider community.

Sonder is for adults aged 18 and over and is launching in mid-2026. Join the waitlist to be among the first invited in.

Campfire, a separate protected version for young people, is planned as a future branch of Sonder Broadcasting. It is not currently available.
The Four Spaces
How the app is laid out and what each area does
  • Sonder — your private studio. This is where you record, edit, and organise everything. Your Library lives here, along with your Journal. Everything in this space is yours alone unless you choose to share it
  • Stream — the public listening space. Members who choose to publish their recordings appear here. You can discover new voices, follow people whose stories resonate with you, and browse by theme — all without any pressure to perform or comment
  • Kin — your people. This is where you connect with specific individuals, exchange voice messages and text through the built-in Messages centre, and access heritage tools for preserving and organising family stories across generations
  • Community — shared storytelling. A space for community announcements, responding to shared prompts, and discovering voices on collective themes. Optional, never required
Recording & Editing
How to make a Sonder and what you can do with it afterwards
  • What is a Sonder? A Sonder is a voice recording you make — a story, a memory, a reflection, a thought. Each one is stored privately in your Library until you decide what to do with it
  • How do I record? Tap the microphone button to start. You can speak freely, or choose a prompt — Daily Sparks arrive each day, Reflect prompts are tied to specific events. Both are optional. There is no set time limit — longer recordings are automatically split into segments
  • How do I save? When you finish recording, you can give it a title, add tags, and save it to your Library. Try to record in one session without closing the app — if the app closes mid-recording, the in-progress audio has not yet been saved
  • What can I edit? Open any saved Sonder in the built-in waveform editor to trim, cut, or rearrange sections of your audio. You can also read and edit the auto-generated transcript separately — correct words, tidy phrasing, or remove sections from the text
Your Library
Everything you've recorded, organised your way
  • Your Library is your personal archive — everything you record lives here, visible only to you unless you share it
  • Two tabs keep things separate: Sonders for your voice recordings, and Journal for written entries — each with its own space and search
  • Smart collections are created automatically: Daily Sparks responses, Favourites, Inspiration saves, Community Responses, and Reflect Responses — so your recordings are grouped without any effort from you
  • You can also build your own structure: create Albums to group recordings by theme, chapter, or person, then gather albums into Collections for broader projects. There is no limit on how many you create
  • Download any Sonder as an MP3, or export a full album or collection as a ZIP file with audio and transcripts included
The Stream
Discover and listen to voices from the wider Sonder community
  • The Stream is where members who have chosen to publish their recordings can be heard. Publishing is always a deliberate choice — nothing appears here by accident
  • Browse by category, filter by theme, or let the platform surface voices you haven't found yet. There is no requirement to comment, react publicly, or perform engagement of any kind
  • Follow people whose voices you want to return to — their published recordings appear in your Following feed
  • Mark recordings with Resonance to note stories that moved you. Resonance counts are never shown publicly — other members cannot see what you have resonated with, and any counts on your own stories are visible only to you in your private settings
Kin
Your connections, your messages, your family legacy
  • Kin is where you build your inner circle on Sonder. All connections are mutual and consent-based — you send a request, they accept. No one is added without agreement
  • Once connected, you can share Sonders directly with specific people, receive voice messages and recordings they send just for you, and have private conversations through the built-in Messages centre
  • The Messages centre supports text, voice messages, photos, and video — a full private channel between you and each person in your Kin
  • Legacy Collections let you create curated archives of recordings for your family — organised by theme, relationship, or generation — and share them with the specific people who matter most
  • If you remove a connection, they immediately lose access to anything you had shared with them privately
Privacy
Your story. Your rules. Your data.
  • Every Sonder is private by default. Nothing is ever shared without a deliberate action from you
  • Each recording has its own privacy setting — keep it private, share it with specific Kin, or publish it to the Stream. You can change this at any time
  • Your Kin are automatically blocked from hearing anything you publish to the Stream. This is intentional — it keeps your private relationships and your public voice completely separate
  • Your recordings belong to you. Download any Sonder as an MP3, export a full collection as a ZIP, or request a complete account export at any time — audio, transcripts, and a readable index
  • Sonder does not use your recordings for advertising and does not sell your data. Ever. You can request full account deletion at any time — access continues to your billing period end, then everything is permanently removed
Plans & Access
What it costs, what you get, and how to join
  • Sonder is subscription-based — no ads, no data selling, no algorithm chasing engagement. The platform is funded by the people who use it
  • Seed (A$10/month) — unlimited private recording, Library organisation, Stream listening, Kin connections, messaging, and community access
  • Legacy (A$18/month) — everything in Seed, plus AI transcription, publishing to the Stream, Explore access, full Family Tree editing, and Legacy Collection tools for heritage archiving
